The flood waters that created two areas of deep standing water on Briar Creek Blvd are now being addressed by Town of Malabar. BHCA has discussed the plan with Lisa Morrell, Town Manager, Richard Kohler, Town Clerk and Treasurer, and Fire Chief Hooker. Today, a temporary trench was excavated near the town line from the parking area (for trail access at the newer trail crossing) along the trail connecting Briar Creek Blvd. toward the paved Al Tuttle Trail. Following identification by CPB of the specific location of a water main thought to be in the excavation area, the excavation was completed this afternoon. Some drainage relief has already begun of the flooded section of Briar Creek Blvd. closer to Brook Hollow. That area is expected to drain enough for car passage once the trench is complete. How long that will take is not yet known. The problem and solution areas are at the town line, and TOM is working with CPB authorization where necessary. Volume of water allowed to be moved to the boundary canal, in CPB, must be limited, as that water must pass through the active repair area at Pt. Malabar Blvd.
The flooded area closer to Pt. Malabar seems to have receded enough for lower vehicles (normal cars) to travel at low speeds without stalling out or taking in water to the vehicle cabin.
Efforts to drain the flooded area closer to Brook Hollow down each side of Briar Creek Blvd. were considered; however, that approach would have added water to the flooded area at GlenBrooke’s entrance and/or complicated emergency road work efforts underway on Pt. Malabar Blvd. Accordingly, moving the water away from the Briar Creek Blvd. Right-Of-Way is the current plan.
The TOM appreciates the patience and understanding of residents of Brook Hollow as this problem is being resolved.
Turkey Creek Sanctuary Trails have been closed due to flooded area dangers. Travel to and from Brook Hollow is limited to vehicles with higher cabin clearance from the road surfaces – generally this equates to larger scale SUVs. If you must get in or out of Brook Hollow while this issue is active, it is recommended that you coordinate a ride with a Brook Hollow neighbor who has a vehicle that can navigate the deeper water. Please only travel through the flooded area via a vehicle safe to get through the high water. Please ask service vendors and deliveries not to visit Brook Hollow until the road is fully open. If you need help getting supplies, critical services and/or please contact the Town if no Brook Hollow neighbors are available.
Again, hopefully this issue will soon drain away.
The above info has also been posted on the BHCA Announcement Sign near bridge before Brook Hollow.
